Jimmy Kimmel Live! fans were disappointed to find the show in reruns last night. So what should audiences expect to see on Wednesday?
Like the rest of late-night TV, Jimmy Kimmel Live! went dark on Tuesday night. The Writers Guild of America went on strike and left many shows without a full staff. ABC responded by canceling plans to air a new episode of its late-night show.
Unsurprisingly, the strike is still underway. So there will not be a new episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight.
Instead, ABC will reair the April 12 episode. You can still tune in to rewatch Kimmel chat with Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson and host another performance by Metallica.
When will Jimmy Kimmel Live! return?
It’s safe to assume that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will stay off the air for as long as the WGA is engaged in negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
If the 2007 writers’ strike is any indication, it could be months before things get settled. It’s unlikely that Jimmy Kimmel will attempt to air a show without the help of a union writing staff.
Then again, he may not have a choice if ABC wants something on the air during that timeslot. For example, Kimmel’s specials during the NBA Finals in June are usually big events for the network. Perhaps that’s when Kimmel will do something on air. Fans will just have to wait and see.
