Is The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon new tonight? (May 2, 2023)

The Tonight Show fans were treated to quite the show to open the month of May as Jimmy Fallon kicked off his first show of the new month with special guests South Korean rapper SUGA and comedian Rosie O’Donnell. It was a perfect pairing to kick off the week’s shows which include some amazing guests.

Tonight, Fallon was slated to be joined by actor Matt Damon, actresses Cecily Strong and musical guest Rema. Unfortunately, fans won’t be getting the chance to see the trio join Jimmy Fallon this evening on The Tonight Show as NBC will not be airing a new episode of the show as originally planned.

Why isn’t The Tonight Show new tonight? (May 2, 2023)

Originally, NBC was slated to air a new episode of The Tonight Show on May 2; however, that plan changed as a result of the Writers Guild of America Strike beginning as of the overnight hours of May 2. With the WGA on strike, late-night shows including NBC’s pairing of The Tonight Show and Late Night will both be going dark.

As the Writers Strike has only just begun, it’s unclear how long the strike will last or when exactly late-night shows such as The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon will be off the air. The last Writers Strike, which took place in 2007-2008, went for 100 days so there is a chance we could be without new episodes of our favorite late-night programs for an extended period of time.
