Fans hoping to end their day with a new episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live might want to take a seat because we have some disappointing, albeit not surprising, news for you.

While ABC had intended to air a new episode of its late-night series this Tuesday night as part of what would have been a week of new episodes, there will no longer be a new episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live coming audiences’ way this Tuesday night as originally planned.

The show is one of a handful of late-night programs that will be going dark as a result of the Writers Guild of America Strike which began on May 2 after its contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers expired.

Why is Jimmy Kimmel Live not new tonight?

Jimmy Kimmel Live is among a handful of late-night shows which will be going off air beginning this Tuesday night. The decision not to air new episodes is in solidarity with the WGA strike, which began on May 2.

In addition to ABC’s long-running late-night program, NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night With Seth Meyers, CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, HBO’s Last Week Tonight With John Oliver and Real Time With Bill Maher are all going dark and will not be airing new episodes effective immediately.

At this time, it’s unclear how long the shows will be off the air but it’s expected they will not resume until the WGA Strike comes to an end — which could be days, weeks, or even months. In the meantime, networks will be airing reruns of past episodes in place of original episodes.
