Former President Trump had some harsh words for late-night hosts, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert this week.

Trump, who has just officially begun his 2024 Presidential Campaign, took to Truth Social to bash the television hosts, claiming they are bad for the country.

In a social media statement, Trump told followers: “These losers are dying, they are bad for our Country, which is in serious decline. Nobody wants to watch this negativity anymore.”

The former president’s words were linked to an article published by Hannity.com, responding to a report from Breitbart, claiming ad revenue on late-night shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live! has dropped 41%.

Variety has reported on similar concerns over the television category but claims the drop in ad revenue can be linked to the growing popularity of streaming options.

The outlet reiterated suggestions being made by those associated with the sector that late-night must tap into social media-friendly programming. YouTube channels such as The Tonight Show still draw in millions and have a large presence on our digital entertainment platforms.

In recent months, Trump has praised recent late-night prospect at Fox News, Greg Gutfeld who has stunned the category with an impressive set of ratings. The conservative host even branded himself the ‘king of late night’ after overtaking Stephen Colbert in the ratings last summer.

Critics have claimed Gutfeld’s success last year was primarily during periods when Colbert was away on vacation. We won’t get into that dispute though.

Kimmel responds

Jimmy Kimmel has never shied away from facing Trump head-on. The ABC host has been a target of attacks from the former President for years.

On Twitter, Kimmel replied to Trump’s truth: “Did we make you mad, stretchypants?”.

Nearly every week, Kimmel makes Trump the headlining topic of his late-night monologues and should now come to expect these regular bashings from the current Republican frontrunner.

With Trump gearing up for a busy year of political attacks, we can expect more from his ongoing rivalry with television’s late-night lineup. Hopeful to win the golden ticket to The White House once again, Donald clearly sees late night as a potential threat.
