Saturday Night Live delivered a memorable episode on April Fool’s Day, restarting season 48’s momentum. So what should SNL fans expect to see tonight?

Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson proved she has what it takes to be an SNL cast member with her performance as host. Add in a memorable cold open and Michael Che pranking Colin Jost, and last week set the bar pretty high for the stretch run of the season.

The good news is that SNL has a chance to raise the bar once again on Saturday. There will be a brand new episode of Saturday Night Live.

Former cast member Molly Shannon returns to host for the first time. She’ll be joined by musical guest The Jonas Brothers.

What to watch for on Saturday Night Live tonight

Saturday Night Live had luck on its side last week when former president Donald Trump was indicted just days before the episode. Now, SNL airs a new show just days after Trump was officially arrested and arraigned.

So the question is how SNL will address this latest development in the cold open. James Austin Johnson opened last week’s show as Trump pushing a Now That’s What I Call Music parody to raise money for his legal defense.

For the sake of variety, let’s hope that SNL comes up with something different than just having Johnson staring down the camera. Yes, Trump delivered a speech at Mar-a-Lago after his arraignment that could easily be parodied. But in this situation, it would be nice to see SNL go after something other than the low-hanging fruit.

Saturday Night Live has a long history of setting sketches in a courtroom, from the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer to Donald Glover defending Jurassic Park. Maybe we’ll get an imagined version of how Trump behaved in court? Or SNL could choose to examine the day through the Fox News or Team Trump lenses.

We’ll find out when Saturday Night Live airs tonight at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
