A grand jury voted to indict former president Donald Trump on Thursday evening. The news was a case of perfect timing for Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

News broke around 5:30 p.m. ET on Thursday that Donald Trump is on track to face charges stemming from hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels. Late-night TV shows on the east coast, like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Late Night with Seth Meyers, typically tape around the same time. Therefore, it’s unlikely either show had something prepared and ready to go tonight.

Out in Los Angeles, Jimmy Kimmel and his team will benefit from the timing. Co-head writer Molly McNearney tweeted her appreciation for the grand jury indicting Trump two hours before Jimmy Kimmel Live! was set to tape.

Kimmel, McNearney, and the other writers likely threw out whatever they were working on before hearing the news. Late-night TV fans should expect Kimmel to open his monologue tonight by reacting to the indictment. If Kimmel’s Twitter account is any indication, he’ll be more than happy with the last-minute changes to the show.

Who’s on Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight?

Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue will eventually have to end, even if the host would gladly spend an hour celebrating Trump’s indictment. But Kimmel has a stacked guest lineup on tap to round out the show.

First up, Viola Davis and Julius Tennon join the show to discuss their new movie Air. The married couple pplaysMichael Jordan’s parents in the Ben Affleck-directed film.

Then, actor Brett Goldstein stops by to chat with Jimmy Kimmel. He’ll talk up season 3 of Ted Lasso, and may even field a Marvel question or two from superfan Kimmel.

Finally, musician Daniel Caesar is scheduled to perform. His latest album, Never Enough, is expected later this year.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs tonight at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.
