Saturday Night Live recently revealed its host lineup for April. When actress Ana de Armas gets her turn later this month, she’ll help make SNL history.

SNL returns from its hiatus on April 1 with host Quinta Brunson. The Abbott Elementary star makes her Saturday Night Live debut, hoping to restart season 48’s momentum built in part by her predecessor, Jenna Ortega.

Brunson will be followed by SNL alum Molly Shannon on April 8 and then Ana de Armas on April 15. When that happens, it will mark the fourth consecutive episode solo hosted by a woman. It will break SNL’s previous record and make history in the process, as pointed out by a Reddit user.

The closest we’ve come to something like this came back in season 29. Jessica Simpson co-hosted with then-husband Nick Lachey, following Jennifer Aniston and preceding Megan Mullaley, Drew Barrymore, and Christina Aguilera.

But when de Armas hosts on April 15, it will set the longest streak for individual women to be in the spotlight in Studio 8H. The actress is deserving of the honor; she’s coming off an Oscar nomination and has films like Ghosted and Ballerina on the way.

Who was the first woman to host Saturday Night Live? Which woman has hosted SNL the most?

Saturday Night Live debuted in 1975. It took four episodes for the NBC sketch show to have its first woman host.

Candice Bergen was given the honor on November 8, 1975. The talented actress also became the first woman to host multiple times. Bergen joined the illustrious Five Timers Club in 1990 and continues to appear in sketches welcoming new members.

However, Bergen has yet to host Saturday Night Live again since 1990. That absence has allowed three other actresses to overtake Bergen as the female who has hosted the most episodes.

Drew Barrymore, Scarlet Johansson, and Tina Fey have each hosted Saturday Night Live six times. Barrymore first hosted in 1982 and most recently in 2009; Tina Fey first hosted in 2008 and last hosted in 2018; Johansson first hosted in 2006 and last hosted in 2019.
