John Oliver returned to the topic of Fox News in the latest episode of Last Week Tonight. The HBO star addressed a recent controversy surrounding the conservative news network and the lawsuit it now faces from Dominion Voting Systems.

Fox News, with businessman Rupert Murdoch at the helm, has faced a huge wave of scrutiny as insiders now reveal just how un-newsworthy the channel really is.

An anonymous report for the network told The Daily Beast last week: “It’s pretty damn clear the motivation is the money-based machine on the opinion side that drives all their business decisions, that drives a lot of their programming decisions.”

Despite Fox already in hot water after making a number of outlandish lies about the 2020 election, using Dominion as its scapegoat, this ongoing lawsuit has unveiled even more worrying details.

According to a tweet posted by Media Matters, a Tucker Carlson producer joked via private messages that Tucker Carlson knowingly reports false information to viewers. It’s all rather shocking.

John Oliver takes on Fox News and Rupert Murdoch

Speaking on Last Week Tonight recently, Oliver addressed this latest controversy involving Fox News.

In a deposition this January, Murdoch was asked by lawyers representing Dominion if he felt the corporation was “engaged in a massive and coordinated effort to steal the 2020 presidential election.” Of course, Murdoch replied with a heavy no.

“Wow, just a straight-up no from Murdoch there,” Oliver said, in reaction to Murdoch’s words.

“I will say in their defence, of course, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham went too far. That is their whole thing. Laura delivers every monologue with the energy of your concussed PTA parents and Hannity spews bullshit while looking like one big neck. You made these monsters, Rupert. You don’t get to act surprised.”

John Oliver also took aim at Tucker Carlson who has long been an easy target for the HBO host. Last week when text messages sent by Tucker Carlson were leaked, revealing to the public that Carlson in fact found Trump’s time in office “tough to digest”, the Fox host was buried in mockery.

Remember, Tucker has long defended Trump for a number of years, almost never uttering a word of criticism.

“Wow, a man on a news network cannot be afraid to tell the truth because it’s too tough to digest. That is what the news is,” Oliver told viewers in shock.

It’s not like Tucker Carlson hasn’t dealt with blows like this before. Somehow the disgraced news anchor is always able to ride through the storm and continue his propagandist monologues each and every night, no matter how much it hurts the pillars of American democracy.
