Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley became the latest candidate to launch a 2024 presidential campaign. But according to Stephen Colbert, the republican is wasting her time since she’ll never be president.

Haley’s bid for the White House officially began with a video tweeted out in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Colbert’s monologue picked up the timing, joking that there is no better time to “drop the biggest political news of your life than Valentine’s Day at 6:48 a.m.”

The Late Show host continued, suggesting the only way Haley’s news could have made a smaller splash was if she “whispered it into a bowl of soup.” Colbert then acted out the scenario, admitting “I’m never going to be president” as Haley.

Colbert wasn’t done mocking Haley just over her announcement time. The comedian made sure to remind his audience of Nikki Haley’s connection to former President Donald Trump. Haley served as ambassador to the United Nations under President Trump. She also reportedly asked Trump’s opinion on a run for president in 2024 after previously stating she wouldn’t run if Trump was also a candidate.

Finally, Colbert’s monologue mocked Haley’s claim that the U.S. wasn’t racist based on her experiences growing up in South Carolina. But the Late Show host quickly counters Haley’s point by highlighting a moment just seconds earlier in which she stated her hometown was divided, with white families living on one side of town and Black families living on the other. The segregation apparently lost on Haley didn’t slip past Colbert.

Stephen Colbert’s ‘history’ with Nikki Haley

Stephen Colbert’s monologue also included a bit in which he suggested Haley, his “best friend,” also called him for advice on 2024. The comedian used a laundry list of liberal stereotypes to describe his interaction with Haley, mocking the conservative stereotypes from Haley’s ad.

Haley has also been a target of Colbert’s monologues in the past. A 2018 segment mocked Haley after she suggested sanctions against Russia were on the way, only to be contradicted by the administration after Trump saw her on TV.

Now, Haley is back on Colbert’s radar. Expect to see more monologues going after the GOP candidate as her campaign gets underway.
