Who’s hosting Saturday Night Live tonight, January 28?
By Matt Moore
Saturday Night Live returns tonight with another brand-new episode. And once again, fans will see an SNL rookie take the stage as host.
Last week, Aubrey Plaza became the seventh first-timer to host Saturday Night Live in season 48. It proved to be the smart choice as the White Lotus star helped deliver some of SNL’s best ratings of the season.
Now, it’s Michael B. Jordan’s turn. The Creed III star and director will host Saturday Night Live tonight. He’ll be joined by musical guest Lil Baby.
Jordan’s third installment in the Creed franchise is set to hit theaters on March 3. Fans last saw him on screen in a Black Panther: Wakanda Forever cameo.
Can Michael B. Jordan keep up on Saturday Night Live tonight?
Michael B. Jordan isn’t exactly a surprise pick to host SNL. He’s an extremely popular actor with a fan base that dates back to his days on The Wire. Roles in Friday Night Lights, Fruitvale Station, and Black Panther only gained him more fans.
Still, there aren’t a ton of comedy credits on Jordan’s resume. 2014’s That Awkward Moment, a “bromantic comedy” co-starring Miles Teller and Zac Efron, stands out. On the TV side, Jordan appeared in 16 episodes of the sitcom Parenthood between 2010 and 2011. They say comedy is harder than drama, but SNL’s cast and writers are experts at making anyone into a comedy star. Jordan’s charisma and attitude should help put him over the top.
Jordan could also use a little help from some friends. Aubrey Plaza benefited from cameos by Amy Poehler, President Joe Biden, and more last week. A visit from Jordan’s Creed III co-stars Tessa Thompson and Jonathan Majors would provide a nice boost.
