The wait is finally over. Saturday Night Live returns from its holiday hiatus tonight with a brand-new episode. So who will SNL fans see on stage as the host?

SNL last aired a new episode on December 17. Elvis star Austin Butler became the latest first-time host to get the spotlight in season 48.

Tonight, another SNL rookie gets their chance to host. Actress Aubrey Plaza will host Saturday Night Live. Musical guest Sam Smith will join her.

2022 was a big year for Plaza. She starred in season 2 of HBO’s hit The White Lotus. Then, she received praise from critics and audiences for her Netflix film Emily the Criminal.

What to expect from Aubrey Plaza as tonight’s Saturday Night Live host

It’s a bit of a surprise to hear that Aubrey Plaza hasn’t hosted Saturday Night Live before tonight. Her role as April on NBC’s Parks and Recreation should have afforded her the opportunity.

But good things come to those who wait. Aubrey Plaza is at the top of her game right now, so there’s no better time for her to take the stage in Studio 8H.

Tonight will be something of a homecoming for Plaza beyond just being on NBC. She was an intern for SNL’s design department from 2004-2005. The actress also auditioned for a role in the cast, but Plaza thinks she may have gone too weird with her approach.

That weirdness should be on full display tonight. Expect Plaza to go all out with her opportunity. SNL has yet to have a smash hit yet this season when it comes to sketches. Plaza’s popularity could give a boost to an already quality sketch.

Aubrey Plaza seems like the perfect host for writers to experiment with some out-of-the-box ideas. Plaza’s promo with Chloe Fineman was just a small taste of what weird, bizarre, and absurd sketches could happen in tonight’s episode.
