Saturday Night Live fans have endured more than a month without a new episode. Will that change tonight on NBC?

SNL said goodbye following its holiday episode back on December 17. It was also when Cecily Strong said farewell to the show.

The good news? SNL’s holiday hiatus is officially over. There will be a brand new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.

The White Lotus and Emily the Criminal star Aubrey Plaza will host for the first time. She’ll be joined by musical guest Sam Smith.

What to watch for on Saturday Night Live tonight

A lot has happened over the past month that Saturday Night Live would typically use for cold open or “Weekend Update” material. It will be interesting to see how far back SNL wants to go with his political or pop culture sketches tonight.

It’s hard to imagine SNL will ignore embattled GOP congressman George Santos in the cold open. Fans have called for Jon Lovitz to take on the role, but it looks like The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon beat SNL to the punch.

A character like Santos does seem to call for a cameo. It’s a formula SNL has used in the past with the likes of Melissa McCarthy, Matt Damon, and Larry David popping up to portray notable politicians.

On the other side, a cold open all about President Joe Biden’s classified documents situation could be on the table. James Austin Johnson has shown an ability to carry the show’s opening either as Biden or Donald Trump.
