On Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host used his segment, ‘A Closer Look’, to point out the differences between the Trump and Biden classified document cases. The popular show host claimed that Republicans are hypocrites for the way that they want the Biden situation handled compared to when Trump was in the cross-hairs.

Trump vs Biden – the difference

Meyers started the segment by explaining one of the main differences between President Biden’s situation and Trump’s. “Republicans still cannot seem to grasp the differences between the small number of classified documents that were discovered at President Biden’s home and office and the much larger pile of documents Trump stashed at Mar-a-Lago and refused to give back,” Meyers said.

Seth Meyers went on to highlight that Republicans are complaining about how Trump was raided by the FBI with a media frenzy to follow whilst Biden’s home has not been searched by the FBI. Meanwhile, Meyers was adamant to get the point across that the levels of severity in both these cases differ tremendously. So far, Biden has turned over around 20 classified documents which the late-night show host clarified “[Biden] should not have!” Whereas, Trump had over 300 classified documents found and then refused to turn them over for more than a year.

GOP want to attack Biden

Meyers told viewers, “They’ve made it clear they want to weaponize congressional committees to go after Biden.” He then went on to point out that James Comer, the new GOP chair of the House Oversight Committee, told CNN last year that ‘investigating Trump’s classified documents was not a priority’ and now investigating Biden is a priority.

Seth seemed disappointed that the House Oversight Committee is going to focus on something that, “nobody cares about”. Meyers explained his view that “Congress should hold the administration accountable, regardless of party…[but] for real stuff.”

Meyers finished his segment by noting that Trump has placed his party in a weakened position for the last three elections and despite this, those now in power in the House have made it clear that they are going to protect Trump.
