After airing another round of Celebrity Jeopardy! on Thursday night, Jeopardy! was back to its regular game tonight.

While seeing celebrities like Michael Cera try their luck at Jeopardy!, the gameshow is always at its best with everyday people showing off their trivia skills. Friday night was no different.

Who is the current Jeopardy! champion?

Patrick Curran, a consultant from Washington, D.C., entered Friday night’s game as the current Jeopardy! champion. His one-day total sat at $30,000.

His competition tonight included Reuben D’Souza, a surgical consultant from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, and Caitlin Monesmith, a Ph.D. candidate from Chicago, Illinois.

It was a relatively tight game after the “Jeopardy!” round. Curran led with $4,000, followed by Monesmith with $2,400, and D’Souza with $1,200.

But “Double Jeopardy!” saw the champion make his move. He ended the round with a commanding $20,200. Monesmith and D’Souza were tied behind him with $7,200.

That made “Final Jeopardy!” just a formality. In the end, only one player answered correctly. But it didn’t matter as Patrick Curran won again and remains the current Jeopardy! champion. His two-day total is $45,400.

What was tonight’s Final Jeopardy! clue?

Tonight’s clue stumped even the returning champion. But perhaps some history buffs watching the show knew the answer. Here’s the clue in the category “Historic People”:

After a 1789 event, he wrote, “My first determination was to seek a supply of…water at Tofoa, & afterwards to sail for Tongataboo”

Answer: Who is William Bligh?

The event in question was the 1789 mutiny aboard the HMS Bounty. Both Patrick Curran and Caitlin Monesmith guessed Captain James Cook. Even Reuben D’Souza wrote down Cook before changing his response to Bligh.
