Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, December 31?

Saturday Night Live has already put together a memorable 2022. But will the show add one more show before the year officially ends?
SNL last aired a new episode back on December 17. Elvis star Austin Butler made his debut as host. It was the show’s annual Christmas episode and the last for cast member Cecily Strong.
Unfortunately, it was also the last episode of the year. There will not be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.
Instead, NBC will air Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party during Saturday Night Live‘s typical timeslot. However, the special from Miley Cyrus will have an SNL feel to it.
Lorne Michaels is executive producing Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party. Cast member Chloe Fineman is also scheduled to appear, as is SNL’s comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy.
When could Saturday Night Live return?
Saturday Night Live has yet to announce who will host or be the musical guest when the show does return in 2023. We’ve also yet to get an official return date for season 48.
However, we can look back to previous seasons to get an idea of when SNL could be back on the air.
Last season, the first episode of the new year came on January 15. Before that, it was January 30, January 25, and January 19. So that suggests the earliest we’re likely to get a new episode would be January 14. It’s unlikely that SNL will come back on January 7.
Of course, that could change if Lorne Michaels and company decide to get to work earlier than usual. But based on the typical SNL schedule, the cast and crew probably have a couple more weeks of vacation on the schedule.
