Jeopardy! continued its Tournament of Champions on Wednesday night. Tonight’s semi-finals game featured one of the show’s most popular players.

Tonight’s competitors looked to join the six other Jeopardy! players who are still in the running for the Tournament of Champions.

Who won Jeopardy! tonight?

Wednesday’s players included Tyler Rhode, a director at a start-up from New York, New York, Maureen O’Neil, an executive assistant from Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Amy Schneider, a writer from Oakland, California.

Schneider is the fourth-highest earner in Jeopardy! history when it comes to regular play. Meanwhile, Maureen O’Neil punched her ticket to the Tournament of Champions by placing in the inaugural Second Chance Tournament.

The “Jeopardy!” round proved Schneider didn’t have any rust. She led with $12,600 over Rhode’s $4,200 and O’Neil’s $400.

Not much changed in “Double Jeopardy!” play. Schneider finished the round with $19,600, providing a comfortable lead over Rhode’s $7,000. O’Neil struggled and wound up with $600.

Both Schneider and Rhode answered “Final Jeopardy!” correctly. But Schneider’s lead was insurmountable, and she ended the game as the winner.

What was tonight’s Final Jeopardy! clue?

Tonight’s “Final Jeopardy!” category was in Amy Schneider’s wheelhouse. It’s no surprise the writer nailed the question in “Contemporary Authors”:

A trip to El Paso with his young son & wondering what the city might look like years into the future inspired a novel by this author

Answer: Who is Cormac McCarthy?

The clue referenced Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Road. Maureen O’Neil couldn’t come up with a response. Tyler Rhode didn’t bet anything, while Amy Schneider added $64 to her total for good measure.
