Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, October 29?
By Matt Moore
Saturday Night Live took its first night off in season 48 last week. Should SNL fans expect another week away or are the lights coming on in Studio 8H tonight?
The show came out of the gates with three consecutive new episodes. Hosts Miles Teller, Brendan Gleeson, and Megan Thee Stallion did an admirable job as the show tried to find its footing at the start of the new season.
We’ll see which direction that momentum goes on Saturday. There will be a brand new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.
Rapper Jack Harlow pulls double duty as both the host and the musical guest. In a rare move, SNL will go with back-to-back episodes featuring the same host and musical act. Harlow follows in the footsteps of Megan The Stallion.
What to watch for on Saturday Night Live tonight
We’re still waiting for that breakout sketch of season 48. So far, nothing has managed to grab an audience outside of die-hard and casual Saturday Night Live viewers. The show is still looking for a sketch that goes viral and trends (for the right reasons).
Tonight, fans will also want to look for the return of Cecily Strong. She’s back in New York after missing the first three episodes while performing a play in Los Angeles. Strong, arguably the show’s MVP, shouldn’t have any rust when it comes to tonight’s episode. Fatigue may be another issue, and understandably so.
Don’t be surprised if Strong is front and center in the cold open. With Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Pete Davidson gone along with others, SNL doesn’t have too many stars that casual fans recognize. Strong and Kenan Thompson have that ability, and SNL is likely to lean on them as a duo.
