Saturday Night Live star attacked in New York, rushed to hospital
Former Saturday Night Live star, Chris Redd, was attacked in New York on Wednesday night.
The comedian, travelling to the Comedy Cellar, was punched in the face by a man posing in security uniform, TMZ reports.
The suspect in question supposedly ran off shortly after assaulting Redd.
Thankfully, the comedian was quickly rushed to the hospital with what was described as a deep cut on the nose.
Redd’s attacker is still unknown but was described as wearing a blue jacket, black pants, bucket hat and black grey and white sneakers.
We’re still not entirely sure why the comedian was assaulted unprovoked.
Redd appeared on Saturday Night Live from 2017 to 2022. The star announced his exit from the primetime sketch show in September, alongside a number of other retiring faces.
Since, the television personality has clearly found more time to focus on his stand-up career, hoping he can rise to the top ranks of the genre.
Redd’s latest stand-up special, ‘Why Am I Like This?’ will drop on HBO Max, November 3rd. The special is executive produced by former Tonight Show host, Conan O’Brien.
Comedians, watch out
Whilst Redd’s injuries seem to be minor, this recent news adds to the growing trend of comedians facing public assaults.
In May, Dave Chappelle was attacked whilst performing on stage at the Hollywood Bowl.
Even this month, it was reported that a comedy show was abruptly interrupted in New York. A self-described Trump supporter threw a can of beer at comedian, Ariel Elias whilst she performed at the Uncle Vinnie’s Comedy Club.
Screenshots posted by Elias show the can flying towards her before she picked it up and drank the leftover alcohol.
