Saturday Night Live season 48 is underway with two episodes already in the book. Will SNL make it three in a row tonight?

The first two episodes were uneven at best as SNL tries to find its footing in a year of change. A completely overhauled cast has been enthusiastic, even if it’s not always hitting the mark.

Fans tuning in tonight can see if the momentum starts to shift. There will be a brand new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.

Megan Thee Stallion gets the honor of serving as both host and musical guest. She’s the first to pull double duty since Lizzo did it last season.

What to watch for on Saturday Night Live tonight

So far this season, Saturday Night Live has yet to have a home run sketch. The most popular sketch seems to be the Try Guys on CNN bit from the last week. The show is due for a big hit that finds an audience beyond the loyal SNL viewers who tune in every week. Now could be the time as the show gets back in the swing of things.

Both episodes have also featured cameos. Jon Hamm popped up in the premiere to help his Top Gun: Maverick co-star Miles Teller. Colin Farrell did the same for his Banshees of Inisherin partner Brendan Gleeson. SNL will likely call in another favor tonight; cameos are common when the host is also the musical guest.

As far as who could join Megan Thee Stallion, that’s harder to predict. One bold prediction would be Dwayne Johnson. He was in New York City on Friday night for the world premiere of his new film Black Adam. Earlier this summer, a viral clip featured Johnson saying he’d want to be Megan’s pet. Maybe he’ll settle for being her SNL cameo?

Saturday Night Live airs at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
