Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, October 8?
By Matt Moore
Saturday Night Live returned to premiere season 48 last week. But what should SNL fans expect to see tonight on NBC?
Miles Teller had the challenging task of hosting the season premiere last week. The show also went through a major overhaul during the summer but returned with enthusiasm and energy.
We’ll see what direction the show trends in after Saturday. There will be a brand new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.
Actor Brendan Gleeson makes his SNL debut as host. He’ll be joined by musical guest Willow for what should be an entertaining episode.
What to watch for on Saturday Night Live tonight
Brendan Gleeson may be an unexpected pick to host Saturday Night Live, but that approach typically pays off for the show. It also doesn’t hurt that Gleeson is a tremendously talented performer with decades of experience in film, television, and theater.
However, his name doesn’t exactly carry the star power that will automatically draw a general audience. Perhaps SNL will make it two-for-two when it comes to co-star cameos. Last week, Miles Teller was joined by his Top Gun: Maverick co-star John Hamm in the cold open. Don’t be surprised if Gleeson’s The Banshees of Inisherin co-star Colin Farrell pops up in a cameo.
Or, Gleeson could be joined by family. His son Domhnall Gleeson is known for roles in the Harry Potter and Star Wars franchises. Gleeson’s other son Brian is also an actor, appearing in Peaky Blinders and Assassin’s Creed.
When it comes to the cast, keep an eye on which new member gets a chance to shine. The premiere saw Michael Longfellow get the spotlight on “Weekend Update.” Tonight may provide a similar opportunity to Marcello Hernandez or Molly Kearney.
