Trevor Noah exits: Jon Stewart returns to The Daily Show?
Trevor Noah made a shock announcement on Thursday night, announcing his exit from The Daily Show. The TV personality hosted the Comedy Central late night show for seven years, but now tackles a number of scheduling issues, making it impossible to continue.
Noah told viewers this week, “I remember when we first started, so many people thought it was a crazy bet, I still think it was a crazy choice.”
“What a journey’s it’s been. It’s been absolutely amazing.”
A source told TMZ that Noah’s increasingly busy schedule made it impossible to continue his duties on The Comedy Central network.
The outlet also reports that the network will continue ongoing negotiations with the host in order to create a “timeline for departure”.
Viewers call for a Jon Stewart return
Despite the love for Noah’s unique presenting era on Comedy Central, fans are using the opportunity to petition a Jon Stewart return.
Many have taken to Twitter this week, urging the network to consider placing Stewart behind the desk one last time.
One user wrote on Twitter in reaction to the news: “He’s been such a joy to watch and more stand up sounds nice. Hope he wouldn’t mind my wanting Jon Stewart to return.”
Another agreed, “So today I’ve learned that Trevor Noah is leaving the Daily Show and, respectfully and with no offence given, I would love nothing more than for Jon Stewart to make a return for at least 2 seasons because I deeply missed his era. Trevor was great but Jon was a legend.”
Despite the social media fuss, it’s far from likely we would see Stewart return. The media icon is already occupied with a number of projects. Stewart currently hosts a similar style show on Apple+, a series now well into it’s second season.
Although, never say never.
