We’re getting even further into September, and Saturday Night Live fans are growing more eager for new episodes. So what should they expect to see tonight?

Saturday Night Live recently announced some more major changes in front of the camera. Cast members Melissa Villasenor, Alex Moffat, and Aristotle Athari will not be back for season 48. How that changes the dynamic of the show remains to be seen.

Unfortunately, we won’t get any answers on Saturday. There will not be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.

SNL season 48 has yet to premiere. The show typically starts its new season at the very end of September or early October, depending on how the calendar shakes out. The best bet would be to circle October 1 as a potential start date.

Has Saturday Night Live ever started a season in early September?

Longtime Saturday Night Live fans shouldn’t be surprised to see the show waiting until later in the fall to premiere. Through 47 seasons, an early September start has become a rarity. However, a few seasons have begun relatively early.

The 1976–77 season began on September 18, the 2008-09 season on September 13, and the 2012-13 season on September 15.

What about the latest start date for a Saturday Night Live season? That would be the 1980-81 season which began on November 15.
