Stephen Colbert faces new backlash from the former president, after Donald Trump labelled the late night host an “overrated loser”.

Via the Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: “Greg is smarter, sharper and a MUCH better entertainer. Colbert is a highly overrated LOSER!”

The former president has taken issue with late night’s host line-up for some time. Referring to Colbert as “the guy on CBS”, Trump described the Late Show host as having “no talent” back in 2018.

“The guy on CBS, what a lowlife. Honestly, are these people funny? And I can laugh at myself. Frankly if I couldn’t I would be in big trouble. But they have not talent. They are not talented people. Johnny Carson was talented,” he said.

A year later, Trump returned to Twitter to provide a furious response to his coverage on late night. The former president titled the big name hosts as “weak” and “untalented”.

Gutfeld wins late night ratings war for month of August

Trump’s comments come after recent news that Colbert was officially overtaken in the ratings war for the month of August.

Although The Late Show ran mostly re-runs of past episodes throughout the month, Gutfeld was keen to celebrate his ratings victory.

Producer of the show, Tom O’ Connor told The Wrap: “We believe we’ve found something unique in the way we are approaching comedy and I think the audience recognizes that.

“The success isn’t only a testament to Greg and his signature monologues, but also to the guests we have in addition to our regular panelists Kat Timpf and Tyrus.”

With Colbert returning to CBS tonight, the host will be keen to face Gutfeld in a fairer ratings match this month.
