Stephen Colbert’s Late Show contract ends in 2023 — What’s next
Stephen Colbert’s contract, hosting The Late Show, will end next year. Back in 2019, the late-night host signed his first three-year extension.
By next year, Colbert will have taken center stage at the Ed Sullivan Theatre for seven years running. Despite all of this, there’s still hope the host will continue his run.
Late-night icons such as Letterman hosted for well over 30 years before retiring from television, whilst others such as Craig Ferguson opted for shorter periods at the desk.
After Colbert’s beloved band leader, Jon Batiste officially left the program, viewers are now speculating as to how long the host will continue his own career at CBS.
There’s no question that there is an appetite for Colbert to stay put. The host continues to top late night’s rating lists, only challenged occasionally by Fox News’s Greg Gutfeld.
And, even if Colbert does decide to keep at his post, the host will see a change in his daily successor. James Corden, who airs his show on CBS after Colbert, announced his exit from The Late Late Show earlier this year.
In a statement, the host admitted: “When I started this journey, it was always going to be just that. It was going to be a journey—an adventure. I never saw it as my final destination, you know? And I never want this show to overstay its welcome in any way. I always want to love making it. And I really think in a year from now that will be a good time to move on and see what else might be out there.”
Unless CBS announces an agreed extension in the next year, Stephen Colbert’s hosting duties at The Late Show could soon come to an end. Would you like to see the host continue on for another three years?
