Bill Maher revealed all on Jay Leno today during the most recent episode of his podcast, Club Random.

Sitting down with Rob Scheider, the two were quick to begin discussing the renowned late-night war between Jay Leno and Conan O’ Brian.

Maher admitted, just minutes into the podcast episode, “I don’t know why Jimmy [Kimmel] and Conan, who I am both so fond of, I don’t want to be in the middle of this, but – I just don’t know why they seem to hate him so much”.

The HBO host went on to defend Leno through all the continued talk over late night’s era of host rivalry. He told Schneider: “He’s such a great guy!”

It seemed Bill’s guest was equally as eager to speak fondly of the former Tonight Show host, adding, “There’s not one person Jay hasn’t helped.”

Maher has been a good friend of Leno’s for now over forty years. Even when Leno faced Maher in a ratings war when hosting on NBC, the comedian assured viewers that the competition was not “adversarial”.

“The thing is about Jay, he would always bend over backward if there was some sort of beef to try and end it. Like people would f*** him over and he would call them,” Maher continued.
