Trump’s new rant on Bill Maher: calls host a “maniac” and “the enemy”
It’s been quite some time since Donald Trump has taken direct hits at television’s late night hosts, but that all changed in a new speech the former president made this week.
Speaking in Memphis, Trump criticised conservative news channel, Fox News for covering Bill Maher. “Bill Maher, everyone know Bill Maher for example?”, he said.
“He’s a radical left maniac with modest television ratings. And as soon as he says something that’s a little bit modest, or temperate, Fox and others put him on to explain, ‘Oh look, Bill Maher, a lefty, Bill Maher is saying wonderful things'”.
Trump continued: “They play right into the hand of the enemy, it’s amazing. I’m sure he laughs like hell at how stupid they are.”
In reality, Fox News has been somewhat lenient in praising the HBO host, often broadcasting Maher’s talking points when covering political events.
Despite this, it’s no surprise why the former president continues to react the way he does towards late night. During Trump’s four year term, Maher was a leading critic of the president, numerously mocking and condemning his tenure.
Trump’s history with late night hosts
Donald Trump’s words should come as no surprise to those who followed the former President closely. He has often gone after talk show hosts in the past for their negative coverage of him.
Back in 2018, went on a scathing rant about Jimmy Fallon during a rally. “Jimmy Fallon calls me up and he’s like a nice guy. He’s lost. He looks like a lost soul,” Trump told fans.
The former president also took shots at the Late Show’s Stephen Colbert on the same night, calling the host a “lowlife”, questioning whether any of them were “funny”.
