After SNL, here’s what’s next for Pete Davidson
By Matt Moore
Pete Davidson said goodbye to Saturday Night Live last month. The season 47 finale was the comedian’s last appearance as an SNL cast member. So what’s next for Pete Davidson?
Davidson returned to the spot that made him a star in the season finale. At the “Weekend Update” desk, the 28-year-old reflected on his SNL tenure with his trademark self-deprecating humor. It even sounded like Davidson got a little choked up as he thanked Lorne Michaels and the rest of his SNL family.
Michaels and the rest of SNL will now join the rest of us in seeing what’s next for Pete Davidson. Not surprisingly, the King of Staten Island star has a lot of projects lined up.
Pete Davidson’s Netflix relationship continues
Pete Davidson’s stand-up special Alive From New York arrived on Netflix in 2020. He’ll team up with the streaming service again this month for Pete Davidson Presents: The Best Friends.
Launching June 13, the comedy special will see Davidson address his year in the spotlight. He’ll also be joined by his friends for more stand-up and music. The special was filmed during the Netflix Is a Joke festival.
More Pete Davidson movies are on the way
The success of The King of Staten Island proved that Davidson could be a box office draw. Expect to see more of the comedian on the big screen in the coming years.
He recently wrapped filming on the romantic comedy Meet Cute co-starring Kaley Cuoco. On the other end of the spectrum, Davidson stars in the upcoming horror film Bodies, Bodies, Bodies from A24. The film hits theaters on August 5.
Davidson stays with horror in The Home directed by James DeMonaco. SNL fans may recall that Davidson missed several episodes during the season due to scheduling conflicts.
The comedian teams up with A24 again for Wizards!. Written by Joel Edgerton and David Michôd, it will also star Naomi Scott and Sean Harris.
There was also a report back in 2020 that Davidson would team up with Colin Jost for the wedding comedy The Worst Man. However, there haven’t been many updates on that film. Stay tuned.
Pete Davidson will also star in a semi-autobiographical TV series
Perhaps the most ambitious project on Pete Davidson’s schedule is Bupkis. The series will feature a fictionalized version of Davidson, similar to Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.
SNL boss Lorne Michaels is an executive producer on the series. It was recently announced that The Sopranos alum Edie Falco joined the cast as Davidson’s mother. The series will be available on Peacock.
