Mattea Roach entered Tuesday night’s Jeopardy! game with a chance to climb further inside the top-10 winningest players of all time. So how did the defending champion do?
Roach, a tutor from Toronto, Ontario, Canada entered Tuesday’s game on a 15-game winning streak. Along the way, she’s won a total of $352,781.
The latest competitors trying to end her streak were Reya Sehgal, a cultural strategist and performer from Brooklyn, New York, and Nicky Smith, a debate instructor from San Francisco, California.
Who won Jeopardy! tonight?
Mattea Roach showed off her knowledge early in the game. She answered 14 out of 15 questions correctly in the “Jeopardy!” round, including the “Daily Double.” She led with $8,000, followed by Reya Sehgal at $3,800 and Nicky Smith at -$400.
Roach went on to dominate “Double Jeopardy!” by answering 19 questions correctly. The next closest competitor was Smith with three. Heading into “Final Jeopardy!,” Roach had $23,200 and Sehgal had $5,000. Smith failed to qualify for the final round with -$800.
“Final Jeopardy!” played no part in the outcome of the game, only how much Roach would add to her total. Surprisingly, the final clue actually cost her money. She failed to get the correct response, losing $7,000. However, her 16-day total now stands at $368,981.

Reya Sehgal managed to come up with the correct answer when Mattea Roach could not. Here’s the clue in the category “African Surnames”:
