Jeopardy! champion Mattea Roach has already secured her spot in the Tournament of Champions. But did she earn the right to continue playing after tonight’s game?
Roach, a tutor from Toronto, Ontario, Canada entered Thursday night’s game on a 12-day winning streak. During this run, she won $271,282. It’s enough to put her 11th on the all-time leaderboard for earnings in regular play.
Tonight, she faced off against Meghan Bowman, an IT analyst from Mount Prospect, Illinois, and Alex Lemberg, an attorney and activist from San Francisco, California.
Who won Jeopardy! tonight?
The “Jeopardy!” round went a little off-script compared to most of Mattea Roach’s past games. Rather than getting out to an early lead, the returning champion found herself in second place. Alex Lemberg led with $6,000, followed by Roach at $5,400, and then Meghan Bowman at $2,000.
However, Roach nearly quadrupled her total in “Double Jeopardy!” and finished with $20,000. It gave her a decent lead over Lemberg’s $12,600. Meanwhile, Bowman ended the round at $4,000.
Lemberg’s attempt to dethrone Roach fell short in “Final Jeopardy!.” Both he and Roach failed to come up with the right response. However, Roach’s conservative wager paid off as she won the game and brought her 13-day total to $286,081.
What was tonight’s Final Jeopardy! question?
Tonight’s top two players failed to answer “Final Jeopardy!” correctly, while third-place player Meghan Bowman nailed it. Here’s the clue in the category “Films of the 1950s”:
The title character of this film has the same name as the Roman goddess of the dawn
Answer: What is Sleeping Beauty?
Some fans may recall that Aurora was the title character in Sleeping Beauty. While Bowman answered correctly, Roach incorrectly wrote down “Sabrina” and Lemberg guessed “Some Like It Hot.”
