Closing in on $200,000 in total winnings, Mattea Roach has become one of the more popular Jeopardy! champions in recent memory. So how did she do on Friday night?
Roach, a tutor from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, entered tonight’s game on an eight-day winning streak. Her cash winnings total $182,801.
Tonight, two new competitors tried their luck at ending Roach’s streak. They were Allan Joseph, a fellow in pediatric critical care medicine from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Katie Teller, a dietitian from Seattle, Washington.
Who won Jeopardy! tonight?
Mattea Roach typically jumps out to an early lead that her opponents never overcome. Friday night’s game saw a different start. At the end of the “Jeopardy!” round, Allan Joseph held the lead with $4,800. Roach wasn’t too far behind at $4,600, while Katie Teller remained in the mix at $3,000.
However, “Double Jeopardy!” saw Roach roar back, answering 13 out of 13 questions correctly. She ended the round in the lead with $21,800. Teller wound up in second with $14,000, thanks in part to hitting on a $7,000 “Daily Double” wager. Joseph finished “Double Jeopardy!” with $10,000.
Teller’s attempt to dethrone Roach fell short in “Final Jeopardy!.” The dietitian couldn’t come up with the right response to match Roach’s correct answer. In the end, Roach won again and brought her nine-day total up to $210,802.
