Last week, Real Time with Bill Maher fans watched as host Bill Maher defended comedians. So what should they expect to see tonight on HBO?

Maher responded to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock by reviving the Real Time segment “Explaining Jokes to Idiots.” The bit even included a shoutout to Gilbert Godfried, just days before the comedian passed away.

However, don’t expect the usual commentary from Maher tonight. There will not be a new episode of Real Time with Bill Maher tonight.

But it’s not all bad news for Maher fans. Instead of Real Time, HBO will premiere Maher’s new comedy special #Adulting.

The special airs at the same time, 10:00 p.m. ET. So while we won’t hear Maher’s thoughts on the past week, we’ll hear what he has to say about plenty of other topics.

#Adulting is Bill Maher’s first HBO comedy special since 2018

Real Time with Bill Maher is currently in its 20th season. Still, Bill Maher isn’t the type to just be satisfied with his weekly late-night TV show.

He still performs stand-up around the country, including his annual New Year’s show in Hawaii. Plus, Maher recently launched his podcast Club Random where he talks to everyone from film directors to social media influencers.

So it’s no surprise that Maher has the kind of material for an HBO special. #Adulting is Maher’s first comedy special since 2018’s Live From Oklahoma. The new special was filmed in Flordia, a state that Maher has been known to use as a punchline.

Some early reviews haven’t exactly been kind to #Adulting. However, Maher’s material has long been polarizing. Those who tune in weekly to hear the comedian’s take on the world will no doubt enjoy seeing him on stage, unfiltered, and in his element.
