Saturday Night Live is coming down the home stretch of season 47. So what should SNL fans expect to see tonight on NBC?

SNL returned from yet another hiatus last week. Comedian Jerrod Carmichael became the latest first-time host to take the stage, kicking off the final run of episodes this season.

Fans are in for back-to-back weeks of new sketches. There will be a brand new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal is tonight’s host, returning to the job 15 years after he first did it. He’ll be joined by musical guest Camila Cabello.

What to expect from Saturday Night Live tonight

Last week, SNL had a lot of catching up to do. The show covered the Will Smith-Chris Rock Oscars slap, the war in Ukraine, and the confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. Tonight, don’t be surprised if the show continues to hit on those topics.

Former President Donald Trump held a rally in Michigan this week, so that could provide SNL with material for tonight’s cold open. James Austin Johnson has starred in just about every one so far this season, so what’s one more?

Last week also saw the return of Pete Davidson, albeit only in a prerecorded sketch. The veteran cast member has missed the past few episodes while filming a horror movie. He’s yet to return to the “Weekend Update” desk for one of his popular segments as fans continue to wonder if he’ll further address his relationship with Kim Kardashian on the air.

Tonight is episode 17 of the season. Typically, SNL airs 21 episodes per season. And with several cast members expected to depart after this season, now could be when we start to see long-time performers take up even more of the spotlight as they prepare to potentially say goodbye. Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, and Davidson are all possibly nearing the end of their SNL runs.

Saturday Night Live airs tonight at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC. The show also streams live on Peacock.
