Lilly Singh’s replaced NBC late night show proves popular
NBC may have found it’s new late night star to follow on from Lilly Singh long term.
Singh’s NBC late night show came to an end in May last year after two seasons on the air. And, whilst the social media star finds a new role on Canada’s Got Talent this month, the late night time slot’s replacement show is in full swing, with a new host.
Amber Ruffin replaced Singh late last year with The Amber Ruffin Show, now well into it’s second season. Ruffin now joins Jimmy Fallon and Seth Myers on the network.
NBC’s latest time slot in the late night genre has proved difficult to attract enough eyes over the years, though Ruffin’s new role looks promising long into the future. The replacement programme sees a new look format to the typical late night setup, ditching typical long-form interviews and monologues for a more SNL-esque take on the world’s news.
As the news was announced that Ruffin’s show would continue to air on the network, fans on Twitter have called for the comedian to be offered an award show hosting gig this year.
One user wrote: “I believe NBC has the Emmys this year and if Amber Ruffin isn’t the host, somebody has done something very wrong.” Another said, “Amber Ruffin needs to host the Emmy’s!!! It’s not a need, it’s a want!!!”.
It seems most of Ruffin’s recent online praise came after her famed take on this year’s Oscars.
Where is Lilly Singh now?
Not long after Singh’s late night show came to an end on NBC last year, it was announced she would join a fresh panel of judges on a revival of Canada’s Got Talent on CityTV.
The social media star is joined by Howie Mandel, Kardinal Offishall and Trish Stratus on the panel.
