Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel prank late-night TV by switching places
By Matt Moore
Jimmy Fallon Live!? The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Kimmel? If it sounds like a joke, that’s because it’s exactly the prank Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel pulled to celebrate April Fool’s Day.
On Friday night, Fallon was in Hollywood while Kimmel showed up in New York City. The two hosts walked out onto each other’s stage, surprising the audiences by swapping shows, networks, and coasts.
While the hosts share a name, they don’t exactly share the same sense of humor on late-night TV. However, it only made the prank more entertaining as Kimmel’s audience got a taste of Fallon’s lighthearted humor and Fallon’s fans heard how Kimmel can quickly take things off the rails. Things started immediately with each show’s monologue.
Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel get different crowd reactions
The Tonight Show crowd didn’t seem to have a strong reaction to Jimmy Kimmel taking over the show. He tried out some of his politically-minded jokes on the audience before acknowledging the prank. Kimmel even asked the crowd if they were disappointed.
It was a little different over on the west coast. The Jimmy Kimmel Live! announcer introduced Kimmel, but it was Fallon who walked out. Fallon was met with thunderous applause from the Los Angeles crowd.
Fallon had some jokes about appearing on ABC, a Disney network. He reminded the audience that it wasn’t the craziest thing the network aired this week in yet another late-night joke about the Will Smith/Chris Rock slap. Fallon also suggested he’d entered a Marvel-esque multiverse.
The monologue closed with a prank that Fallon and Kimmel pulled together on unsuspecting fans. Check out the clip at the end of Fallon’s monologue below.
