By Matt Moore
For the third night in a row, Jeopardy! had a new defending champion taking on two challengers. Here’s how tonight’s game played out.
Mihir Nene, an engineer from Rochester, New York, won on Tuesday night when he was the only contestant to correctly answer “Final Jeopardy!”.
On Wednesday night, he faced off against Nadège Aoki, a marine biology graduate student from Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Tim McCaigue, an app developer from San Diego, California.
Who won Jeopardy! tonight?
It was Tim McCaigue who jumped out to an early lead after the “Jeopardy!” round. Answering an impressive 16 questions correctly, he finished with $8,800. In second was Mihir Nene with $3,600, followed by Nadège Aoki with $3,000.
McCaigue went a perfect 10 for 10 in “Double Jeopardy!” to increase his lead. He finished the second round with $18,000. Nene stayed in second with $6,400 while Aoki earned $5,900.
“Final Jeopardy!” was a triple stumper that saw no contestant come up with the correct response. McCaigue only lost $2,000 on his way to becoming the new Jeopardy! champion.
What was tonight’s Final Jeopardy! question?
It’s not often that a “Final Jeopardy!” question trips up all three players. Here’s tonight’s clue in the category “Poems”:
The title of this poem comes from a 1920 book that refers to its possible “restoration to fruitfulness”

The T.S. Eliot poem “The Waste Land” was the correct response that escaped the collective minds of tonight’s players. Aoki guessed “What is Trees?,” Nene came up with “What is Raisin in the Sun?,” and McCaigue didn’t write anything.
