Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson to star in new show based on his life
By Matt Moore
Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson has a new project in the works based on his life experiences. According to a new report, Davidson will lead the comedy series as well as co-write the show.
Per Deadline, the show has a working title of Bupkis. Davidson is co-writing with Dave Sirus and Judah Miller. Both Sirus and Miller collaborated with Davidson on his film The King of Staten Island, which also featured elements of Davidson’s life.
SNL boss Lorne Michaels is also attached as a producer through his Broadway Video company. Deadline’s report indicated Bupkis will be similar to Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Deadline’s report goes on to give a preview of what fans can expect from Pete Davidson in Bupkis:
"‘Bupkis’ is described as a raw, unflinching, fictionalized version of Pete Davidson’s real life. It will include a mixture of grounded storytelling with absurd elements depicting an unfiltered view through Pete’s eyes. The show … is expected to reflect Davidson’s real-life persona with an unapologetically unfiltered, R-rated storytelling."
No information about a supporting cast or release date has been announced. Deadline noted that the series is currently being pitched to streaming services including Prime Video and Peacock.
Pete Davidson’s life has been making headlines for years
It’s not all that surprising to hear Pete Davidson’s life could be spun into a television series. Since he joined Saturday Night Live, he has been a tabloid fixture thanks to high-profile relationships, controversial comments, and health concerns.
Currently, Davidson is dating reality TV star Kim Kardashian. The response from Kardashian’s ex-husband Kanye West has only added to the media attention around the celebrity couple.
Davidson has been absent from Saturday Night Live during the past two weeks. He’s filming the horror film The Home directed by James DeMonaco. It’s not the first time Davidson has missed SNL due to filming responsibilities, having previously missed episodes for The Suicide Squad.
Earlier this season, Davidson acknowledged the media frenzy around his life during an SNL cold open. The comedian joked that even with the existence of the multiverse, it doesn’t get any better for Pete Davidson than what he has in this reality.
