Another week of Jeopardy! came to a close on Friday night. Defending champion Christine Whelchel tried to make it three wins in a row.

Whelchel has taken an interesting path to become a repeat Jeopardy! winner. First, she had to win a tiebreaker to dethrone the previous champ. Then, she managed to win a second game despite failing to get “Final Jeopardy” correct. Whelchel entered Friday’s game with cash winnings totaling $44,600.

On Friday night, the piano teacher and church organist from Spring Hill, Tennessee took on two more challenges. She faced off against Max Fronek, a creative director from West Hollywood, California, and Theresa Donohoe, an inventory planning analyst from Waltham, Massachusetts.

After the “Jeopardy!” round, Whelchel trailed Fronek. The Californian totaled $3,400 while the defending champ had $3,100. Donohoe finished the first round with $600.

Fronek extended his lead in “Double Jeopardy!” while the standings remained the same. He finished with $15,000. In second was Whelchel with $11,500 followed by Donohoe with $7,400.

However, things turned out much differently in “Final Jeopardy.” Fronek answered incorrectly while Whelchel got it right. Her $3,501 wager gave her the victory and a three-day total of $59,601.
