Who’s hosting Saturday Night Live tonight, January 29?
By Matt Moore
Saturday Night Live returns tonight with another brand new episode, the third in as many weeks. So who will SNL fans see take the stage as tonight’s host?
Last week, Will Forte became the latest ex-cast member to take a turn as host. The MacGruber star also became the 10th first-time host SNL has used so far in season 47.
That trend will continue with number 11 tonight. Willem Dafoe makes his Saturday Night Live debut as the night’s host. He’ll be joined by musical guest Katy Perry, making her first appearance on SNL since 2017.
Dafoe arrives at SNL following his reprisal as the Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He also appeared in the recently-released Nightmare Alley from director Guillermo del Toro. Next, he plays a supporting role in The Northman coming to theaters in April.
Can Willem Dafoe keep up on Saturday Night Live?
Willem Dafoe is an accomplished actor with four Academy Award nominations to his name. He’s known for dramatic roles in films like To Live and Die in L.A., Platoon, and The Lighthouse.
Of course, a certain generation of movie fans knows Dafoe as Norman Osborn, aka the Green Goblin, in the Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man films. The iconic role has been boosted in part thanks to memes dedicated to Dafoe’s performance.
But the actor also has an impressive list of comedy credits to his name. He’s worked with Wes Anderson several times, though Anderson’s sense of humor doesn’t exactly line up with Saturday Night Live‘s.
And if the promos are any indication, Willem Dafoe arrived at Saturday Night Live ready to go over the top and have as much fun as possible while hosting.
Saturday Night Live airs tonight at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC. The show also streams live on Peacock.
