Saturday Night Live hasn’t been seen since October 23. Should fans expect a new episode tonight or will the hiatus continue?

SNL last left us with a quality episode hosted by Jason Sudeikis. The Ted Lasso star and former SNL cast member met fans’ expectations in his first turn as host, making the subsequent break a little more bearable.

Thankfully, that break is over. There will be a brand new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight. Succession star Kieran Culkin will host alongside musical guest Ed Sheeran.

Culkin follows in the footsteps of his brother Macaulay Culkin, who hosted almost 30 years ago to the day. In fact, Kieran Culkin appeared in that episode for a Bill Swerski Superfans sketch.

On the musical side, Ed Sheeran appears ready to go despite dealing with a positive COVID diagnosis earlier in the month. Some reports indicated SNL scrambled to find a replacement, but it looks like Sheeran has been cleared to enter Studio 8H to perform.

Saturday Night Live looks to keep its ratings trending in the right direction

After four episodes, much has been made about Saturday Night Live‘s ratings thus far in season 47. The season premiere hosted by Owen Wilson made headlines for delivering some of the poorest ratings for a season opener in recent memory.

Things didn’t get much better when No Time to Die star Rami Malek made his SNL debut. However, Kim Kardashian West and Jason Sudeikis combined for back-to-back weeks of improved ratings.

Now we’ll see what kind of audience tunes in to see Kieran Culkin join the SNL cast for a night. Succession boasts a strong fanbase, and SNL may hope that a week off will make audiences eager to catch a new episode. There’s also the Pete Davidson factor. His personal life continues to attract attention. Could a few more eyes be on SNL to see what, if anything, is said about his connection to Kim Kardashian West?

Saturday Night Live airs tonight at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
