You can add one more podcast to your listen list thanks to Stephen Colbert. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert launched its own podcast on October 25.

“The Late Show Pod Show with Stephen Colbert” will feature audio lifted from the late-night TV show’s original broadcast. That means listeners can keep up with Stephen Colbert’s monologues as well as his interviews with celebrity guests.

The companion podcast will be hosted on Spotify’s Megaphone platform. In a statement, Late Show executive producer and showrunner Chris Licht described the podcast as part of a plan to “grow [Colbert’s] overall brand” while also serving the needs of the show’s audience.

It’s an audience that has put Stephen Colbert on top of late-night TV and kept him there for some time. The Late Show routinely battles it out with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live! for ratings. This summer marked the fifth consecutive year that The Late SHow pulled in the most total viewers in late-night TV.

The Late Show joins other late-night TV shows with podcasts

The Late Show isn’t exactly breaking new ground by launching a companion podcast — or any podcast, for that matter. Several shows have added a podcast to their content offerings.

“Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” remains the top option for late-night TV/podcasts. There is a notable distinction between the podcast and Conan, but Team Coco has built itself a nice little podcast empire over the past few years.

Late Night with Seth Meyers offers an audio version of “A Closer Look” and other in-studio segments from the show. It also releases “Late Night Lit” for book fans.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee provide fans with podcasts, too. And Jon Stewart hosts “The Problem” to go along with his new Apple TV+ show.

Given the number of late-night TV shows finding success in the podcast space, it’s not surprising to see The Late Show with Stephen Colbert join the mix. Hopefully, more original podcast content is on the horizon.
