Saturday Night Live has already delivered three back-to-back-to-back new episodes to start season 47. Will it be four in a row tonight?

It’s hard to imagine SNL could replicate the pace it set last season. Fans may recall the show rattled off six consecutive weeks of new shows as it covered the 2020 presidential election and more.

Meanwhile, the season 47 streak will continue for at least one more week. There will be a brand new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.

Former cast member Jason Sudeikis returns to host for the first time. He’ll be joined by another first-timer in musical guest Brandi Carlile.

Saturday Night Live needs a ratings boost from Jason Sudeikis

Jason Sudeikis was on the fans’ shortlist for hosts in season 47. Some expected him to host the season premiere to capitalize on the popularity of Ted Lasson season two.

Regardless, Sudeikis arrives at Studio 8H just when SNL needs him the most. Ratings for season 47 have been less than ideal, to put mildly.

The premiere episode hosted by Owen Wilson underperformed compared to other season premieres in recent memory. Part of that was not having the boost that comes with election season or Donald Trump in office.

SNL bounced back slightly in week two thanks to Kim Kardashian West. But things slipped again last week. No Time to Die star Rami Malek, through no fault of his own, hosted an episode that drew record-setting lows.

Jason Sudeikis certainly has what it takes to turn things around. He’s beloved by a generation of SNL fans that watched him alongside Kristen Wiig, Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, and Seth Meyers. Ted Lasson only expanded Sudeikis’ fanbase, so expectations are understandably high. Can Sudeikis deliver? In the words of Ted Lasso: believe.
