Who’s hosting Saturday Night Live tonight, October 2?

It’s finally here: The season premiere of Saturday Night Live airs tonight on NBC. But who will host the season 47 premiere?

SNL typically takes a pretty big swing when selecting a host for the season premiere. Chris Rock, Woody Harrelson, and Adam Driver are the three most recent hosts called upon to kickstart SNL.

That trend continues tonight. Owen Wilson will host SNL’s season premiere. It will be his first time as a host. He’ll be supported by musical guest Kacey Musgraves.

Wilson is enjoying a pretty successful, and busy, 2021. He starred alongside Salma Hayek in the Amazon movie Bliss. Then, he debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Mobius M. Mobius in Loki. Next, he’ll reunite with Wes Anderson for The French Dispatch hitting theaters on October 22.

Owen Wilson and Saturday Night Live’s history together

Owen Wilson has been making movies and TV shows since 1996. His resume includes Meet the Parents, Zoolander, The Life Aquatic, Wedding Crashers, and the Cars franchise. Despite all those hits, he’s never hosting Saturday Night Live before.

However, he has appeared on the show. Wilson dropped by “Weekend Update” for a cameo alongside his Zoolander 2 co-star Ben Stiller.

Wilson’s distinctive voice and look have also popped up on Saturday Night Live. Fans may recall Edward Norton’s impression of Wilson in the Wes Anderson Halloween parody from a few seasons back:

Melissa Villasenor showed off her Owen Wilson impression in a 2017 sketch with Aziz Ansari. The sketch is one of her best. She showed it off again, briefly, in another sketch that year. Could we see her Wilson voice return in 2021?
