Saturday Night Live: When does season 47 start?
By Matt Moore
It’s getting to be that time of year. The fall season is fast approaching and with it, new seasons of fan-favorite television shows. So when should audiences expect to see Saturday Night Live season 47?
Season 46 wrapped up on May 22. The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy and Lil Nas X closed out another season impacted by COVID-19. But Saturday Night Live is ready to reload.
SNL season 47 will premiere on Oct. 2. No announcement has been made about a host or musical guest to kick off the new season.
The past few seasons have seen premieres pull in massive audiences. Fans eager for the show’s return, big-name hosts, and the political climate all contributed to solid ratings. SNL is surely hoping for more of the same, and that could influence who gets the call to host.
Is anyone leaving Saturday Night Live ahead of season 47?
When Saturday Night Live season 46 ended, some fans worried it was the last time they’d see some beloved cast members. Rumors and speculation swirled around Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, and more.
Strong, McKinnon, and Bryant recently spoke about their SNL futures. They didn’t confirm a return or an exit, but it seems like they’ll be back. Lorne Michaels stated he thinks Strong has more to do at SNL, while the show has also been more open to allowing cast members to film other projects during the season.
Meanwhile, Davidson has hinted at both a return and a departure since season 46. The comedian may think he’s done all he can at SNL, but there are plenty of fans who want to continue seeing him in Studio 8H.
We’re less than a month away from the season 47 premiere. Fans looking for the entire cast to return could take it as a good sign that they’ve yet to hear about anyone leaving. Regardless, we’ll all know soon enough.
