The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is just days away from welcoming a studio audience back to the Ed Sullivan Theater. To celebrate, late night TV’s top show will also welcome back big-name guests.

After more than a year of remote shows followed by filming from a makeshift studio, The Late Show will finally return to its normal studio along with a live audience on June 14. It’s a major milestone for the show and New York City.

An event like this requires a certain type of guest to go along with it. That’s why Stephen Colbert will welcome Jon Stewart, Dana Carvey, and H.E.R. to the show on Monday.

The former Daily Show host has a personal connection to New York and of course, Colbert. It makes him the perfect first guest to kick off The Late Show‘s return to normalcy.

Dana Carvey helped launched Colbert’s career in comedy. The Late Show host was a writer and performer on the short-lived Dana Carvey Show.

H.E.R. is coming off an Academy Award win for Best Original Song for “Fight For You” from the film Judas and the Black Messiah. The singer also has her album Back of My Mind coming soon.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert should get a major boost from a live audience

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert hasn’t suffered from no live audience in terms of ratings. It was once again the top-performing late night TV show last season.

But there is clearly different energy when it’s just Stephen Colbert, a skeleton crew, and sometimes his wife in the room. It’s hard not to argue that the charm of these low-fi shows has worn off, both for the host and the audience at home.

That’s why the June 14 episode has the potential to be so special. Expect Colbert and his staff to be on top of their game, both for the benefit of the audience in the Ed Sullivan Theater and those watching at home. A return to the theater provides much more opportunity for comedy while Colbert is an old pro at feeding and feeding off of a crowd.
