We’ve reached the final weekend of May. Will that bring with it a brand new episode of Saturday Night Live?

Saturday Night Live fans know that the show always wraps up its season in May. While the pandemic changed some things about season 46, that’s still the case.

SNL had its season finale on May 22. There will not be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.

The season concluded with host Anya Taylor-Joy and musical guest Lil Nas X. The Queen’s Gambit star was stellar in her SNL debut and ensured she’ll be back sooner than later.

Tonight at 11:30 p.m. ET, NBC will reair the Jan. 30 episode hosted by John Krasinski with musical guest Machine Gun Kelly. It’s a fitting choice as Krasinski’s new film A Quiet Place Part II opened on May 28.

When will Saturday Night Live return?

When Saturday Night Live returns for season 47, there is a good chance it will look very different. The cast was filled with veteran performers and some may be ready to move on.

In recent days, Pete Davidson indicated he’s ready to “hang up the jersey” after a seven-year run on the show. Fans are also uncertain about the future for Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Cecily Strong.

There is also the chance for new faces to be added to the cast, especially if there are a few exits. At the same time, featured players like Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman are due for a promotion.

Expect SNL to aim for an Oct. 2 return date for season 47. The show typically starts its new season around the end of Sept. or in early Oct. So if it wants an earlier start, Sept. 25 is an option. But given how hectic this season was and the possibility of a much different-looking cast, SNL may opt to take as much time as possible before launching a new season.
