Who’s hosting Saturday Night Live tonight, May 22?
By Matt Moore
Tonight marks the season 46 finale for Saturday Night Live. SNL will look to end its year on a high note with help from a breakout star as host.
It’s been another strange year for SNL but the show did its best to make things as normal as possible despite the ongoing pandemic. That included bringing in an eclectic mix of hosts that included everyone from Chris Rock to Elon Musk.
Tonight’s Saturday Night Live season finale will be hosted by Anya Taylor-Joy. The Queen’s Gambit actress will be joined by musical guest Lil Nas X. Our episode preview explains why Joy could find herself in even more comedy roles after tonight.
*Update: Check out our episode recap, highlighting Anya Taylor-Joy’s best sketches*
Joy garnered attention for roles in films such as The Witch, Split, and Emma. But it was the Oct. 2020 release of The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix that catapulted Joy’s career to the next level and undoubtedly landed her on tonight’s SNL.
Her popularity should attract more viewers in addition to tonight being the season finale. The cast and writers typically pull out all the stops, so there is no reason not to expect a fantastic finale to season 46.
How to watch Saturday Night Live
Saturday Night Live fans know that a season finale can be bittersweet. On the one hand, there is potential for surprise appearances and outrageous sketch ideas. On the other hand, it means a long summer without SNL. It also means it could potentially be the last time we see some cast members. Plenty of rumors are out there about who is staying and who is going but nothing has been confirmed. Be sure to watch tonight’s episode for the entertainment and any clues on the future.
