Saturday Night Live has made headlines with its selection for season 46’s next host. But what should fans expect to see tonight on NBC?

There have been some surprising and out-of-the-box picks for hosts through the first 17 episodes. Carey Mulligan, Regina King, and Adele probably weren’t on too many people’s radar when it came to potential SNL hosts.

Sadly, there won’t be a new name added to that list tonight. There will not be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.

Instead, NBC will reair the April 11, 2015 episode hosted by Taraji P. Henson with musical guest Mumford and Sons at 10:00 p.m. ET. The Nick Jonas episode from this season will rerun at 11:30.

But next week should be a very, very interesting show. Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk will host alongside musical guest Miley Cyrus. SNL tapping Musk to host has been met with backlash, including from some in the show’s cast and crew.

The latest on Elon Musk and Saturday Night Live

Not since Donald Trump was asked to host back in 2015 has Saturday Night Live faced so much criticism for who it invites on the show. Elon Musk is a polarizing figure due in part to his business dealings, political views, and response to the pandemic.

As stated above, members of SNL’s cast and crew made it known they were upset with Musk coming to Studio 8H. The New York Post reported that cast members won’t be forced to appear in the episode. However, the outlet’s source was speaking in general terms and not necessarily about the upcoming episode specifically.

Michael Che had some fun at the report’s expense, suggesting he would use the policy as a reason to steer clear of Colin Jost. Che didn’t make his opinion clear one way or the other when asked about Musk on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Instead, the “Weekend Update” anchor suggested it was customary for the host to give each cast member a couple million dollars.

We’ll have to wait one more week to see if any SNL cast members choose not to appear alongside Elon Musk. Stay tuned.
