Through 17 episodes, season 46 of Saturday Night Live has provided plenty of unexpected choices when it comes to hosts. What should fans expect to see tonight on NBC?

Predicting who will be a host at the start of any SNL season is a fun exercise but it’s difficult to get more than a few right. Who could have predicted that Adele, Regé-Jean Page, or Carey Mulligan would be getting the call to host SNL?

Unfortunately, there won’t be another name added to that list tonight. There will not be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight. SNL will return on May 8 and we now know who will be the host.

Instead, NBC will reair the season 41 episode hosted by Brie Larson with musical guest Alicia Keys at 10:00 p.m. ET. The episode airing at 11:30 has yet to be confirmed but we’ll update you as soon as it’s announced.

Which Saturday Night Live host has the highest-rated episode in season 46?

There is no denying that the right host can expand Saturday Night Live‘s audience on any given night. Look no further than Eddie Murphy’s return for proof of that.

But circumstances and the week’s headlines can also bring in more viewers curious to see how SNL will respond. This can give a host a boost in the ratings.

So which host has led SNL’s highest-rated episode this season? The answer is Dave Chappelle. The post-election show on Nov. 7, 2020. Just over 9 million people tuned in to hear Chappelle’s reaction and see how SNL would respond to the end of the Trump era. It was SNL’s highest-rated episode in three years.

It’s hard to imagine another episode this season coming anywhere close to those numbers. In fact, it will probably take another presidential election or the return of a beloved cast member as host to challenge Chappelle’s mark. Stay tuned.
