By Tiara Starks
This weekend, Saturday Night Live viewers will notice that there is no new episode on the schedule. The late-night sketch comedy show is scheduled to return on May 8th for the18th episode of season 46 but is currently taking a hiatus.
There’s still no word yet on who will leading the rest of the season’s episode lineup. But it’s a great time to reflect on what viewers have already seen as well as take a look at sketches that might’ve been under-appreciated or missed from each of the past four episodes of the season.
From Nick Jonas to the most recent episode hosted by Carey Mulligan, there’s sure to be a video that strikes your fancy.
Saturday Night Live’s underrated sketches: Home Makeover
This “Cut For Time” sketch definitely deserves some more eyes on it. Host Nick Jonas and cast member Heidi Gardner portray an interior design team who host their own television show “Bachelor Home Makeover”. In this “episode”, the duo is tasked with helping Stevie and Blake (played by cast members Mikey Day and Kyle Mooney) redo their bachelor pad. The duo seems to have a very niche taste in decor which the design team seems to showcase in the most unusual ways.
Saturday Night Live underrated sketches: Hot Ones with Beyonce
This “Hot Ones” parody is sure to make fans of the First We Feast show laugh out loud. Maya Rudolph returns as the iconic singer-songwriter Beyonce to appear as a guest on Sean Evans’ (played by Mikey Day) internet show where celebrities eat hot wings while answering questions about their lives and careers. In this “episode”, it seems as if ‘Yonce isn’t actually able to handle the heat as much as she said she could but, of course, see for yourself.
Saturday Night Live underrated sketches: Viral Apology Video
Most people have probably heard of the situation revolving around a certain popular social media influencer. This sketch provides a humorous way to shed light on the “influencer apology” culture that we’re seeing in this digital age. Host Daniel Kaluuya and cast member Kyle Mooney portray two members of a prank group called the “Prank Posse” who seem to not understand the meaning behind learning from your past mistakes.
Saturday Night Live underrated sketches: Star Trek Spinoff
Trekkies unite! In this fake parody of the popular sci-fi franchise’s prequel, several cast members are seen as ship workers trying to figure out how to navigate their ship to safety. Host Carey Mulligan and cast member Mikey Day appear as two young (most likely millennial) console operators who suggest a solution but, instead, are berated by the ship’s captain and workers for their lack of knowledge, experience, and…emotional stability.
