Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida is under investigation for possibly violating sex trafficking laws. Gaetz attempted to defend himself through an interview with Tucker Carlson but as Jimmy Kimmel explained, it may have done more harm than good.

Gaetz rose to national prominence through his passionate loyalty to former President Donald Trump and his habit of trolling and pulling stunts for attention. It’s the exact kind of behavior that put him on late night television’s radar over the past few years.

Now Gaetz finds himself at the center of a very serious scandal. According to the New York Times, the Department of Justice is investigating the Florida Congressman over his alleged relationship with a 17-year-old girl and allegedly paying for her to travel with him.

Gaetz has strongly denied the allegations, claiming he is the victim of an extortion scheme. He attempted to further defend himself on Tucker Carlson Tonight. But critics found Gaetz less than convincing and he received little help from Carlson. The interview made for perfect monologue material on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

Jimmy Kimmel enjoys how uncomfortable Matt Gaetz and Tucker Carlson look on screen

Jimmy Kimmel makes a point to let his audience know that nobody likes Representative Matt Gaetz. Kimmel refers to Gatez as the shrimp in your Cinnamon Toast Crunch and cites reports that Republicans are celebrating Gatez’s scandal.

It’s not often that late night TV reports on something in which Tucker Carlson is the second-most hated person involved. Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, Trevor Noah, and John Oliver are among the comedians who have taken shots at the Fox News host in just the past few months.

But Gaetz manages to make himself look even worse and gets zero help from Carlson. Kimmel is visibly amused after watching Carlson twice distance himself from Gaetz’s comments.

Jimmy Kimmel called the interview so all over the place that it reminded him of a performance by the MyPillow Guy. Kimmel also enjoyed his public meltdown and now we have another member of Team Trump embroiled in controversy, much to the delight of the late night host.
